We’ve got a totally packed night of dotNet Miami planned for you this May. Microsoft’s Joe Raio will be back to get us up to speed with all of the exciting announcements from Build 2017. Then, Rick Tuttle will give us a look into serverless with Azure Functions. Finally, Ptah Dunbar will show us how to create a mobile development with React and WordPress. It’s going to be an awesome night of great technical learning!

Hold Your Nose and Get Started Using Azure Functions

Azure Functions is fresh, yo. Every week it sucks a little bit less. If you are willing to put up with some blemishes you can get started doing serverless computing using AF with C# or Javascript (Node). Rick Tuttle will do a short demo of how to use Azure Functions for webhooks, accessing Azure storage and calling other APIs.

With the promise of Learn Once, Write Anywhere: React Native opens up the mobile app development scene to JavaScript and WordPress developers like never before, providing unprecedented mobility for teams to develop, ship and deploy cross-platform applications and experiences to their users. *Whew.*
To showcase how React Native and WordPress can play together, let’s walk through a sample mobile app over the course of the lecture. Starting with an overview of why in the world anyone would want to do this, we’ll follow up with a breakdown all of the moving parts from zero to one hundred (I mean, real quick). Next, we’ll learn a little bit more about React Native with a recap on React itself. Finally, we’ll connect those ideas with the WordPress JSON API and ponder on ideas about the future to be written.
