CATO Institute Miami Luncheon
December 11, 2013 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm UTC-5
Please join us for an informative and entertaining policy luncheon and discussion with Cato scholars Richard Rahn, Dan Mitchell and Dan Ikenson.
Dan Mitchell, one of the nation’s leading experts on international tax issues, will examine the timely topic of Washington’s financial crisis. He will emphasize the importance of moving to a territorial tax system and cutting federal spending as a solution to fiscal dysfunction. Also, he will share his thoughts on what to expect from the budget battle ahead.
Next, Dan Ikenson will review the current state of trade policy—with a focus on Latin America. International trade is frequently portrayed as a zero-sum contest between “us” and “them” in which all Americans are expected to support Team USA at the negotiating table. Dan will examine this fallacy, one of several misconceptions that guide U.S. trade policy away from free trade and economic liberalization, and toward industrial policy and crony capitalism.
