A Conversation with Rony Abovitz
February 23, 2015 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm UTC-5
Engineer and entrepreneur Rony Abovitz (BSME ’94 and MSBME ’96) is the features speaker for the 2015 M. Lewis Temares Entrepreneurship Forum on Monday, February 23rd at the University of Miami Newman Alumni Center. The Forum provides real world context to explore entrepreneurship in action.
As co-founder of MAKO Surgical, Rony developed the world’s first robotic haptic arm and was named a 2005 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum for this work on computer-assisted technologies for minimally invasive surgery. In 2013, MAKO was purchased by Stryker Corporation for $1.65 billion.
Now as Founder, President and CEO of Magic Leap, Rony again is poised to change the paradigm of the technology world. With $542 million in venture capital (funded by Google, Qualcomm, Legendary Pictures, and others), Magic Leap represented the third largest venture capital project in the nation during 2014. According to Rony, “Magic Leap is going beyond the current perception of mobile computing, augmented reality, and virtual reality. We are transcending all three, and will revolutionize the way people communicate, purchase, learn, share and play.”
There will be a networking reception at 5:30 pm with students, alumni, friends and faculty, followed at 6:30 by an interactive discussion.
