National Day of Civic Hacking 2018
August 11, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
Join Code for Miami and the Code for America Brigades on Saturday, August 11th from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM for National Day of Civic Hacking.
National Day of Civic Hacking is for all! Get a crash course in community organizing and learn about the necessary steps for getting a project started, conducting user research, data collection methods, and what to do once you have a prototype.
During this event we will hear from local civic organizations making a huge impact like Miami Transit Alliance, Catalyst Miami, VolunteerCleanup.org, and more! Participants will get a chance to interact and work with leaders of these groups.
Come out if you’re looking to learn about how you can make more of a difference in your community while getting the facts on some of the issues South Florida faces today.
What you’ll work on
Get a mini Miami Civics 101 lesson from the Miami Urban Impact Lab over breakfast then hear from some of Miami’s top organizations on what sparked them to start up and how they gather data to drive decision making.
Then break out into groups for a roundtable discussion with each organization on some of the challenges they face on a daily basis, their goals, how they decide what to work on next, and where there’s room for your help!
After lunch, attendees will be provided with prompts, guiding them through the necessary steps to identify community challenges, conduct user research, come up with a solution prototype, and present their idea for approval or go back to the drawing board.
